A three phase electrification project worth over 300 million, the construction of hospital blocks and other facilities valued at over 500 million were some of the projects that would change the face of the municipality.  For the past months this year, the Andek has successfully constructed classrooms and other facilities in the areas of Basic Education as well as vocational training at GS Angai, GNS Andek and SAR/SM. The Mayor used the session to beckon on the councillors and their families to return to their homes in a bid to enable state assigned workers and other social work force to resume in the municipality so that course of development can well be advanced. " The construction of a  Zoo Technical and Veterinary Centre and the construction of an Agricultural post and a residence for the chief of post is enough to prove that we have the improvement of the agro sector of our subdivision. This is because most of our population is in the area of crop production", Mayor Ubangoh highlighted. He further intimated that some mobility concerns were handled in the area of bridges and rehabilitation since it would ease the movement of persons, goods and services especially food from the farms to the huge markets in Mbengwi and Bamenda.

Amongst future plans of the Andek council, features the purchase of Radio equipments for an envisaged community radio baptised DUDUM  FM Radio. "This will help us to reach the population faster and at need moments with useful information", the Mayor elaborated while looking up to all the projects at utmost completion to facelift Andek subdivision to higher heights.

Mayor Ubangoh Helly feels that with development ongoing in Ngie and other villages despite the crisis tells well of the councillors and the commitment of the development associations of the various villages.

Miss Sante NW Exhorts Population To Know Genotype

The recently crowned Miss Sante North West 2021, has continued her journey through embarking on health projects one of which is on sickle cell disease. To push forward the drive for her chosen project, Miss Sante North West, Tata Sonita Bonkar organized in Bamenda on Wednesday, October 20,2021 a training aimed at raising awareness of the disease with focus on child and pregnant women who constitute the most danger points for the sickle cell disease.

Miss Sante 2021 NW with some participants at the training.

Bringing together some stakeholders for the training, Miss Sante North West encouraged all and sundry to help in stopping the propagation of stigmatization perpetrated on sickle cell patients. While schooling participants , Tata Sonita Bonkar reveiled that 20% of Cameroonians are sickle cell carriers and need to know much more of their genotype so as to know how to avert from being a sickler.

Sickle Cell disease which is an autosomal recessive condition which is gotten from two copies of a gene, makes matters worst when one is still a toddler or pregnant reasons being that at that stage especially for children, they do not yet know how to take care of themselves and likewise their parents still discovering how to cope with the disease in their child. With every sickler varying from each other in relation to treatment and crises faced by the carriers, the myths surrounding the sickle cell disease like a sickler not living up to 21 years of age and other myths were debunked as not true with regards to the sickle cell disease.

Miss Sante 2021 NW, Tata Sonita Bonkar.

One of the sub projects envisaged by Miss Sante North West is to have a clinic only for sickle cell patients so much so that they are well taken care of without their pain not being really felt by some general medical practitioners in hospitals around.

To what motivated Miss Sante North West to embark on a sickle cell awareness campaign, she pointed out that "alot of people are living with sickle cell and it is a minority in the society thou it is affecting the Cameroonian population with about 20% being sickle cell carriers and if not treated the number may triple in the future and sickle cell is that disease which should be treated and properly handled and as well heard and prevented. Every sickler is vulnerable and have a weak immune system but with kids and pregnant women, it is more dangerous given that it goes to delay growth and with lots of complications."

Demonstration chart at the training.

With participants drilled on sickle cell which boils down to the importance of knowing their genotype, they were educated that there exist four hemoglobin genotypes in humans which are: AS,AA,SS and AC with the sickle cell trait being the SS and AC genotypes. Given that each human being has a specific pair of blood inherited from both parents, knowing ones hemoglobin genotype before chosing a life partner is important because there may be compatibility issues which could have devastating effects when it comes to conception. Worth noting is that AA can marry anybody, AS is better off with AA, AS and AS, AS and SS are too risky while two sickle cell carriers are advised to avoid conception.

Sickle cell anemia or sickle cell disease is a genetic disease of the red blood cells which normally are shaped in the form of a disc which gives them the flexibility to travel through even the smallest blood vessels. However, with this disease, the red blood cells have an abnormal crescent shape resembling a sickle which makes them sticky and rigid and prone to getting trapped in small vessels which blocks blood from reaching different parts of the body and causes pain and tissue damage. The sickle cell disease is caused by inheriting the sickle cell gene and not caused by anything the parents did before or during the pregnancy and one cannot get the disease from someone who has it.

At Bamenda III Water Catchment Area: Innovations Guarantee Water Supply Of 60000L Per Hour To Inhabitants

By Peter Tasi

The Bamenda III Water catchment area located in Menteh, Nkwen, Bamenda III subdivision has given a facelift with new innovations put in place to the water plant which is said to guarantee water supply of 60000L to households from the previous 40000L it use to supply previously.

The innovations takes precedence over the challenges the people of Nkwen have had to suffer with little or no portable water in their respective quarters which was due to the drop in the flow from the water table in the months of February 15 to the month of March 2021.

German technicians with Mayor Fonguh explaining the innovations to the press.

The Bamenda III municipal authority under the development oriented Mayor Fonguh Cletus made it clear that the optimization done by the water engineers was to increase on the water quality and as well on the production which has been successful given that they have had to install new pumps, solar panels which enables the site to do filtration with energy while the new system now composes of a control box which the whole system is linked to. "The control panel is very important in that it is sensitive if the stability is too high, it makes the system to go off so as to avoid damage and it has an internet connection which enables our German engineers to monitor the production and equally repair from Germany." Mayor Fonguh enlightened while adding that even the  waste water produced is not wasted since nearby farmers use on their farms and the new system guarantees reachability to many quarters and constant water supply to neighborhoods in the municipality. The Mayor and team however plan to install a solar panel around the Saint Paul school so much so that it pumps water into the reservoir and the supply done by gravity. The security challenges posed by the ongoing crisis however did not deter the German partners who brave all the odds to come upgrade the water plant together with their donations which the Mayor said aided to meet the needs of the water supply as the population demand. With more still needed to be done, Mayor Fonguh Cletus insist that "our future plan will be to construct a bigger reservoir storage facility both at the base and also somewhere in town on a high altitude for we may be facing now a challenge of storage."

Mayor Fonguh Cletus granting an interview to the press.

Karli Heinisch one of the German engineers together with the project leader Gerd Müller did elaborated that the problem of heavy rainfall had caused the blockage of the filter which new methods were then introduced to have it cleaned and maintenance done as well as placing new parts for solidity in the future. With the new technology installed by the Trinkwasser  Nongovernmental organisation as well as their other donators; ELIQUO KGN, ELIQUO STULZ, SWT, CENTER TECH, KROHNE, CONAQUA, LIONS CLUB WALS-SIEZENHEIN and another private donors, it has greatly improved on the water supply quality and quantity since there is now more possiblity of distribution to be made to various localities in the Bamenda III municipality.

The innovations carried out at the water catchment site by the water engineers includes an automatic system and an upgrade of the manual system which if there is failure then the manual system could be used. To maintain security of water supply 24/7 the introduction of the solar panel which controls the whole  plant and a standby generator helps to distribute water up the hills of Menteh quarter.

The more than three billion CFA Francs budget the project has had to consume since 2016 as indicated by Mayor Fonguh Cletus, has for the last five years and counting stood the test of time to provide portable drinking water to inhabitants of the Bamenda III municipality.

Shupong Michael, the peace centered politician

The man who has so far been described as a square peg in a square hole has began winning the hearts of admirers as he now wears the shoes of his predecessor Fri Jonathan. The section president, Michael Shupong succeeded to like his predecessor did while in power to rally thousands of militants who turned out massively in their numbers to welcome the Prime Minister and Head of Government Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute at the gateway into the region at Santa-Matazem. Admirers of the CPDM party who arrived for the PM's welcome have made positive remarks as to the section President's hardworking nature which was like a test given that he is just new to the position despite having been in the political scene at the CPDM party in the hay days.
