At Thanksgiving Mass, Priests Challenged To Be Bearer Of Good News

Rev Father's Jasper Nkwain Toh, Oliver Ngong and Humphrey Chah have on Sunday July 3, 2022 celebrated their thanksgiving mass at Saint Paul Quasi Parish Ntahkekah, Nkwen.

St Paul Parishioners while in church at the main mission.

In a solemn mass concelebrated by a host of priests from far and near and the three priests as main celebrants, Christian's of St Paul Quasi Parish were told that it was a special day given that they are celebrating the gift of life, the 14th Sunday in ordinary time year C and the gift of the priesthood.

Titling his homily 'the priest as a bearer of good news', Fr Beltus Asanji said the priest is a bearer of good news because he is acting in the person of Christ.

To be a priest of good news, the three priests celebrating their thanksgiving mass were called upon to take powers from God and not depend on their own strengths to succeed. Fr Beltus challenged them to be prayerful, Holy and must be very close to the people they serve. "serve the underprivileged and not only to the rich who should also be supportive to the poor and less privilege in society, if you dance to the tune of the rich and any other person who should depend on you for blessings, then you will fail." Fr Beltus warned while adding that a priest is a messenger of Mercy which Christian's believe in and should stand for their words by also standing for the truth in and out of season by preaching the gospel as Jesus Christ said.

Drawing inspiration from the readings of the 14th Sunday in ordinary time year C, Fr Beltus Asanji further told the priests to abstain from fear, stay clear from material things and cheap popularity while exhorting the Christian's to continue praying and support them in any way they can such that it leads them to grow in the priesthood.

In his address, the PPC chairman Wirba Edward expressed the congratulations of the Christian's of St Paul Quasi Parish to the priests. He admonished them to seek to be a light to all the Christian's and to do all in the name of the Lord.

The Christian's of St Paul Quasi Parish are to continue in same frenzy as three brothers from the Parish specifically from St Charles Lwanga Mission Station, Ntamuche will be ordained deacons.

To note that the three priests were part of a total of 17 priests ordained on April 20, 2022 at the metropolitan cathedral big mankon by His Grace Andrew Fuanya Nkea.

Rev Fr Nkwain Toh in the middle.

"I was posted by my Bishop to serve as teacher in Sacred Heart college, Mankon. I am very elated celebrating this thanksgiving mass at Saint Paul Quasi Parish and the preacher exhorted us that we are preachers of food news and I think that in my own little way I am going to be that bearer of good news just by my way of life which will be a source of inspiration to the boys of the college and I pray that God will give me the Grace so that they can also see the good side of the priesthood in the way I do my things".

                   Rev Fr Oliver Ngong

"I have been assigned to Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Ntaafi and since my ordination and my seminary life, I have always desired to serve the church and to bring the good news to the people of God through my way of life, a life of humility, a life of service, a life of Holiness. After my ordination I have been struggling to make sure that I touch the heart of the people not only through words but also through my way of life. Many people are always keen to see how the ministers of the gospel live it. To be a bearer of good news as the preacher said, I must model my life according to the life of Christ the High priest whom I am imitating and to also draw strengths from the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. My mission statement is 'the hour has come Father glorify me that I may glorify your son, I want to glorify God through serving others'."

                  Rev Fr Humphrey Chah

"I have been assigned to assist the people of God in Saint Lucy's Quasi Parish, Ntahturu. I am going to work closely with Fr Wilfred Buma who is my Parish Priest and like the preacher said I should be a bearer of good news, he brought out one aspect clearly to be following and being obedient to my Parish Priest because he has the pastoral program for the Parish and the pastoral program is aimed at bringing good news to the people of God. I will listen to the people I have been called to serve and to bring Jesus to them."

Archbishop Nkea Inaugurates New Parish, Administers Sacrament of Confirmation

The Archbishop of Bamenda who doubles as the president of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon His Grace Andrew Fuanya Nkea has inaugurated a new Quasi Parish in Nkwen, Bamenda III Subdivision.

Archbishop Andrew Fuanya Nkea being welcomed into the church premises.

With the community in constant enlargement interms of population which is fast growing, the new Quasi Parish dubbed Our Lady of Mercy Quasi Parish Manda with it's four mission stations, will see to it that Catholic Christians in the area do not travel long distances for worship.

In a solemn mass celebrated on the area where the seat of the parish will be in Namoh quarter, Nkwen, Archbishop Andrew Nkea as main celebrant reminded the Christians that it was a big day made by the Holy Spirit.

While preaching on the occasion, Archbishop Andrew Nkea told the Christians that a Parish is created at the request of the Parish Priest who states clearly that his territorial boundaries have witnessed an increase and necessitates the upgrading to a Parish and not the Christians writing letters to the Archbishop for the creation of a Parish same thing he added that the Bishop requests from the Pope for the creation of a diocese.

He however used the opportunity to salute the people of Nkwen for haven't received and welcomed the Bayelle Parish which housed at that time and still housing all the parishes in Nkwen which then migrated to so many other parishes and the latest being Manda which Mbelem will follow suit adding that the Nkwen land counts six Parishes. His Grace Andrew Nkea exhorted and encouraged the Christians of Nkwen to continue building God's houses despite the crisis, such that as the crisis ends and others starting from zero, they would have been going ahead and succeeding.

                College of concelebrants.

Given the need to have an educated society, the Archbishop called on the people of Nkwen to keep sending their children to school for education is key to every growing society. "...Education is what I have always stood up for since this crisis began and I have always said if you don't send your children to school today, when the crisis comes to an end, those who did not go to school will become nightwatchs and minor jobs while does who did go to school will have the major jobs, so be wise my people..."

As the readings of the 6th Sunday of Easter portrayed, he called on the Christians to have an open mind to help one another. "it has been decided by the Holy spirit that this land will continue to grow peacefully," adding that the peace will be transcended to the kids receiving confirmation. "I pray that the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit guide you all into the new church you will begin to enjoy." His Grace Andrew Nkea said.

To note that Our Lady of Mercy Quasi Parish Manda was created on July 20, 2021 and became functional with the appointment of the pioneer Rector Rev Father Beltus Asanji and Curate Rev Father Hycenth Kam. The Quasi Parish was carved out from the then Futru Parish by the Archbishop Andrew Nkea. Our Lady of Mercy Quasi Parish Manda, Nkwen counts four mission stations with eighteen Small Christian Communities.

The Archbishop made it cristal clear that the newly inaugurated Our Lady of Mercy Quasi Parish will be raised to a Parish upon building a church in their premises and his next visit will automatically raise them from a Quasi Parish to a full flesh Parish.

Rev Fr Beltus Asanji presenting the signed letter of the Archbishop creating the QP.

Being the pioneer Rector to pastor the people of the new parish, Rev Father Beltus Asanji noted that starting a parish is not easy and is a very herculian task but "we thank God for His Grace for making us reach this level, with the efforts put in place we are going to attain higher heights. without the people you cannot succeed so I count much more on collaboration which should see us realize our church project. I am here to work with the people, for the people and with the people."

PPC Chairman, Nsah Frederick in discussions with His Grace Andrew Nkea.

The Parish Pastoral Council Chairman Nsah Frederick highlighted that being a new Quasi Parish the challenges are many given that they don't have structures and facilities given that they have to build from scratch. "We are still renting an apartment to hous our priests, we have land which we still have to bulldoze before we start building." Nsah Frederick intimated.

The Our Lady of Mercy Quasi Parish Manda has as motto: The City of God.
